A sentry is a soldier who guards against unauthorized access to a place, and keeps watch for danger.

There is a list of 11 General Orders for a Sentry. One of the sentry orders requires they keep quiet unless there is a problem. In the United States Military, a sentry keeps post and guards government property allowing no one to pass unless they have been approved. This order has a strong connection to the white list of software that computers can safely use.
